Warehouse and Yard Design for a major Food site

This business was experiencing challenges with movement of goods and product around a large main site and a satellite site. Cost of storage and distribution was high and was also having negative impact on production due to poor availability of the goods on time.

We were engaged to relocate a warehouse into an old production building that would reduce storage and distribution cost and improve availability

We analysed the current operation, surveyed the current storage sites and understood the major cost drivers. We also surveyed the old production building which was not yet fully decommissioned and considered its location and its suitability for warehouse. The warehouse design had to allow for relocation of warehouse staff offices and major consideration of the effect on movement of FLTs and delivery vehicles coming from the UK and Europe.

We came up with design of warehouse that would include decommissioning of production area; civil work (floor, drainage and walls) to prepare buildings for warehouse use; extraction and ventilation system; compliance (building regs, change of use from a planning permission point of view); racking; and movement of people and vehicles.

The design was accepted by senior leadership and we were also instructed to deliver the project.
